stage 1 coming back

Hi again Sarah,
To be honest luvie this is just one huge lottary, no one can ever say that it`ll never come back or yes it will do, or if it does when! We just have to hope and pray we are lucky.

Clear cell is a little different to some of the other OC`s so prognosis may be a little different however, most cancer`s caught at a stage 1 will always be better than a higher stage sweetheart, I hope you are in a better place than some people, although I do understand that it doesn`t feel like that right now. I am not all that clued up about clear cell but there are several ladies on her with clear cell, who you can talk too.

If you are worried about anything talk to your oncologist and listen to her and find faith in her, they won`t lie to us but obviously some of our questions and worry`s are rather like asking how long a piece of string is.
The good news is unless they tell us we are terminal and we only have so and so to live then there is always huge hopes and hopes do come right in the end for many of us.

Some cancers react better to chemotherapy than others, I freaked almost when I read my notes which stated I had an agressive grade 3 tumour. Once my oncologist explained that yes indeed I was partly correct about what I had read, the fact was this high grade tumour also responded better to the chemotherapy so realistically it may not turn out as bad as one would initially assume.

OC`s are as complex as any other cancer - we can only use the research knowledge and statistics as a guide but try not to take too much notice of them.
We can also compare ourselves to others and assume we will be one of the unlucky ones or vice versa but the coin flips sometimes and the other side is in a different place all of a sudden, this is life in general I am afraid to say. So its best not to compare and not to think too much luvie.

Another little story ~ My brother was diagnosed with colon cancer 2 months before I was daignosed with OC, my couson was also diagnosed with breast cancer around the same time. The three of us was battling through the treatments for very different cancers.
I remember my positve headed brother saying that if anyone of us was not to suvive it would be our cousin simply because she could not be positve at all. I was kind of somewhere in between the two I had days when all I wanted to do was cry and others when I was a good ol jolly ho!
My broth, was on a high the whole time, saying I will beat this, I am strong, My oncologist tells me there won`t be any cancer left in my body after surgery and chemo, etc, etc!!!!
Sadly Nigel had a motor bike accident within a few months after his chemo, he almost lost his life and was in hospital for 3 months. It was touch and go for a very long time and now his leg is fussed and he is unable to bend it as he lost his knne cap in the accident. At one point the surgeons were talking about amputation. Well, he suvived that and he went round cockily telling everyone he was immortal !!!!!!!
Then, his cancer came back, and he is now termianlly ill and it ain`t looking good. This has all happened withing the last 18 months.
Sad story - but oh so true.

Sometimes I believe we need to face our demons before we bury them in the sand its the most natural thing in the world to be scared and worried. Those who are not or who don`t think too much openly may be scared and worried in their subconcious mind, this does more harm than good.
Talking about feelings and emotions is the best way forward, I have every faith in that. I hope no one on here is made to feel they dare not open their mouth about their fears because someone else manages their own problems better and tells others they should live life to the full and stop worrying !!!!!!!!!
We all know that is what we should be doing, its not all that easy and we are all allowed to have a few wobbles once in a while.
Worry is normal, worry is good sometimes, and most of all some of us need to air it. Talking is good, talking is freeing those demons so bring it on girls, talk your worry`s through, isn`t that what we are here for.
This is actually a positve exercise!!!

Poor you, Sarah! I know how we can get down and worried and confused, etc etc. Also sad to say, there is always a case where the prognosis isn't so hopeful, like Tina's brother, but there are so many of us on here who are doing OK, who are having a good life after our diagnoses and who are thanking our lucky stars for that. I was diagnosed with borderline OC/ 1C 9 years ago, didn't have any chemo, and so far ............. life is good. Chin up! There's a lot of hope for a good life after a Stage 1 diagnosis

Hi Sarah,
I had clear cell in one ovary in a giant cyst and endometrioid in the other ovary- kind of buy one get one free!! Overall stage was 1c as the clear cell cyst burst whilst they were removing it- luckily no spread outside the ovaries. I had the standard treatment of carboplatin and taxol for six cycles and have been very fortunate to have no recurrence since- this was July 2008 when I had the surgery.

My oncologist was very optimistic even when they found some suspicious nodules on the bowel at the first scan prior to chemo and said that clear cell in the early stages is just as treatable as any other cell type and responds as well (was a piece of research he quoted but I can't remember now!) Nodules had disappeared at half way scan, but I was quite negative still about my chances and it took a long time to believe that I might be OK- probably standard reaction to all that had gone on.

Chemo nurses also said that everyone is an individual and in the end all it came down to was how you responded to treatment - that people with stage 4 could do just as well as stage 1 if they were sensitive to the chemo given- in other words I had to suck it and see!! Good advice if a bit nail biting with the waiting.

Hi Sarah,
I was diagnosed with grade 1c clear cell almost 5 years ago now. I had the surgery and chemotherapy that is standard. Thankfully I am well and have had no re-occurance. I am feeling very well and hopefully things will go the same for you.
