That is a long time to wait, Suzanne. Is it worth ringing the hospital (oncologist's secretary or specialist nurse) and asking for an earlier date. Explain how you are feeling. Good luck

Hi Suzanne!
My experience is tha the oncologists and gynae consultants have little control over the timing of scans. I always get calls for scans Direct from tgeradiology dept with little note being taken of mybavailability as discussed with consultants. Last time I heard nothing for two weeks then got 72 hours notice. Needless to say I cancelled other commitments to be there! Your oncologists secretarybmay be able to put a bit of pressure on though and get your scan brought forward if you let her know how you are feeling.

Good luck!
Margaret.

Hi Suzanne, I agree it is a long time to wait and obviously the stress is not good. Have you tried ringing the CT department asking if there is anything any sooner explaining your anxieties to them. I did this once and got in a little earlier. Failing this ask your onc nurse to ring and ask for an earlier date. Take care. Jean x

I had this problem once and rang the scanning dept to say I could come at short notice anytime and they put me on a cancellation list and sure enough there was a space within a few days. Hope you manage to get the results sooner x

Dear Suzanne, I'm so very sorry you're in turmoil waiting for the results of your scan. I think we're very much in the same boat in that I have only recently had a scan and I will have a 3 month check up later this month.

I wonder if will help to share with you our coping mechanisms. We take the view that if life's good one day it's there to be enjoyed and not to spoil it worrying about tomorrow. I hope you feel well at the moment and that you can relish everything you do because life is as good as it gets right now.

The results of the scan are already there but it's just you don't know what they are. Worrying about them won't change them in any way. I'm not a religious person but I've always derived great comfort from religious philosophies. Here's a prayer ascribed to St Francis of Assisis. It's called the Serenity Prayer:

God grant me the serenity
to accept the things I cannot change;
courage to change the things I can;
and wisdom to know the difference.

I wish you love and laughter and serenity even in the most difficult times.

hugs, Annie xxx

Hi Do you have a keyworker nurse. I was given the number of my keyworker nurses when I was first diagnosed with OC and they are really good at getting things sorted for you. I am in the same position as you. I finished my 6 chemo cycle at the end of Dec 11 and was told I would have to wait 6 weeks for a scan and then I would have to wait 6 weeks to see the oncologist. In my opinion this is too long to wait as it is a very anxious time after your chemo is finished. I wasn't getting a appointiment through for my scan so I rang my keyworker and she informed me I wasn't down for a scan until after the 10 Feb 12. I said that wasn't good enough as after the 10th could mean anything. So they pushed for the scan date for me and I got that on the 3rd Feb. I then had a letter cancelling my 2 March appointment with the oncologist to the 16 March. So I rang my keyworker again and they got back to me and said that unfortunetely that was now the new date. I said I can't wait 6 weeks for the results as my anxiety levels were going through the roof, I wasn't sleeping and finding it difficult to conscentrate on anything. So they rang me back as they had reviewed the scan results on the Monday after I had had the scan on the Friday and gave the the Good News over the phone, that my scan was clear. Why do they make you wait so long surely they know particularly for your first scan how anxious you must be. So try if you can to get a keyworker nurse they are little angels.
Thank you for letting me have a rant!! Hope you can get it sorted soon. lol Didyxx
