What after taxol/carbo fails?

Taxol carbo didnt work to shrink my tumours, Im being referred to the Marsden and wondered what I might be offered next for slow growing OC. They have mentioned I might go on a trial.

Hi Sunny,
Sounds like a trial may be the answer. Royal Marsden is a good place to be. There are plenty of drugs that they can use, not necessarity OC ones, my latest drugs were not on the oc list, but I have got a respite for now, so never give up hope.

Sorry to hear you have not responded to chemo. Do you know how sort of tumor/s you have? I just had a regime of chemo not work for me either- I was on a drugs trial for mucinous OC (I was also seen at the Royal Marden) and had oxaliplatin and capecitabine as a course of chemo but my cancer progressed while I was on it. With me they started without a break on carbo/taxol for 3 doses to see if it has an affect. It it does they hope to do more surgery but I too am very worried what will happen if there is no response again. They believe my cancer is slow growing too, it started as borderline but the last surgery I had described it as moderate grade so who knows!

There are a number of options other than Taxel and carbo so as Viv says do not despair. I am on a trial at the RM and know they will take good care of you.

Hi Sunny,
You have probably seen my cancer progressed while on Taxol/Carboplatin and so now I am on caeylx. Still early days yet so I don't know if there will be a response. Weekly Taxol is very popular as an alternative. Please let us know which chemo they decide to give you - it is really useful for us to know the alternatives out there.

I suppose it really depends on the outcome of your surgery and the pathology report before they will decide. Are you getting any symptoms at present as they may decide to wait until you do as some research shows that the cancer responds better to chemo when it is.

As you know from previous discussion I have a low grade cancer. There is still some residual disease so I'm not in remission but as its stable and not active I'm not having any chemo.

I'm trying to embrace cancer as part of my life I have regular check ups at the hospital (I'm under The Christie) but its hard not to imagine every symptom I have isn't cancer related but I guess that is true for all of us on this site.

I was wondering how do you know that it's stable and not active? This might sound like a stupid question....but I'm on 2nd line treatment and have had 6 chemos and after scan next week will find out if I have another 2 chemos or not. And obviously I want to have stable and non active tumours...but how do you know that?xx
