Has anyone out there been through pelvic radiotherapy for advanced ovarian cancer? If so, how effective?

Diagnosed 5 years ago. Big op and 3 cycles of chemo - taxol/carboplatin. Another op this year (colostomy). Latest tumour localised -hence offer of radiotherapy

I am one of the support line nurses at Ovacome. If you would like ot discuss more about radiotherapy do please feel free to give us a ring on the support line 084573710554/02072996650 Mon - Fri 10-5. In the mean time I will see if there is anyone who has had radiotherapy who maybe willing to correspond with you.

Hi Ruth. I have MEOC and have a tumour which has appeared at the top of my vagina. I am being offered a pelvic exenteration but wonder if a course of radiotherapy may be better as a first option? I had a complete hysterectomy 16 months ago and my chemo finished 9 months ago.
Thanks. Hetty

Dear Hetty
I am sorry to hear about what has been going on. It is difficult to suggest what is the best treatment for you as I don't know your exact situation. Ask the doctors you are under to explain why surgery is the best course of action and why they feel radiotherapy is not the best thing. If you feel unhappy about the decision they are making ask for a second opinion. It is a big operation and it is good to explore every avenue before you decide on the best option. If you want to discuss things further do give us a ring.

Yes; I was also diagnosed with advanced OC 5 years ago, had ileostomy, and recently I have had 2 courses of radiotherapy on a localised tumour. This was primarily to shrink the external protrusion of the tumour, but I am happy to correspond if I can be of any help.
